Wood Descriptions
The following descriptions are for
informational purposes. Because of the variation in color
and grain in all wood types, the list below best describes
the specifications of the wood that will be used in the manufacturing
of your cabinets.
OAK
Natural Red Oak |
This grade of lumber is as it comes off the
pile with little regard to color. it may contain off color
boards. A good choice when staining with a medium to dark
color. This grade is not recommended for natural or clear
coat finishes. |
Select Red Oak |
This grade of red oak is hand picked for its consistency
in color. The light wheat color is emphasized, although
slight color variations in the boards may occur such
color mismatch is held to a minimum. This grade is highly
recommended for natural or clear coat finishes. |
White Oak |
Generally this grade of lumber is as it comes off the
pile with little regard to color. The color generally
runs more consistent then that of red oak. A good choice
if you are using a medium to dark stain color. |
Rift Sawn Red Oak |
A straight grain lumber without the fleck of quarter
sawn oak. |
Rift Sawn White Oak |
A straight grain lumber without the fleck of quarter
sawn oak. |
Quarter Sawn Red Oak |
A straight grain lumber with many flecks created by
the sawing process. |
Quarter Sawn White Oak |
A straight grain lumber with many flecks created by
the sawing process. |
Rustic Oak |
This grade of lumber is very figurative. It may contain
knots, off colors, and worm holes. Because of the nature
of this wood in its drying process the knots may have
small pieces missing. |
MAPLE
Natural Soft Maple |
This grade of lumber allows for sap wood
and heart wood to be combined. Black fleck and mineral
stains are held to a minimum. Board have little regard
to color. This grade is recommended when stain of a medium
to dark color is to be applied. |
White Soft Maple |
This lumber has little or no mineral fleck. Attention
to color match is emphasized trying to maintain the white
color. This grade is highly recommended for light staining
or clear coats. |
Natural Hard Maple |
This grade of lumber allows for sap wood and heart
wood to be combined. Black fleck and mineral stains are
held to a minimum. There is little or no regard for color
match. This grade is recommended when stain of a medium
to dark color is to be applied. |
Select White Hard Maple |
This lumber has little or no mineral fleck and attention
to color match is emphasized trying to maintain the white
color. This grade is highly recommended for staining
or clear coats. |
Paint Grade Maple |
This lumber is generally used for painting. It may
contain fleck, black marks, off color, occasionally sticker
stain (a degrade in the drying process) and grain mismatch
in glued up panels. It is not recommended for any type
of stain. |
BIRCH
Natural Birch |
This grade of lumber allows for sap wood
and heart wood to be combined. It may contain black fleck
and mineral stains and there is little or no regard to
color. This grade is recommended when stain of a medium
to dark color is to be applied. |
Select White Birch |
This lumber has little to no fleck or heart wood and
worm track is held to a minimum. Attention to color match
is emphasized trying to maintain the white color. This
grade is highly recommended for staining. |
Paint Grade Birch |
This lumber is generally used for painting. It may
contain fleck, black marks, off color, occasionally sticker
stain (a degrade in the drying process) and grain mismatch
in glued up panels. It is not recommended for any type
of stain. |
CHERRY
Natural Cherry |
This lumber is figurative in color ranging
from white in the sap of the boards to the dark red color
located at the heart of the lumber. This lumber may also
contain pitch pockets. A good choice for dark stain or
if you are seeking a natural look. |
Select Cherry |
This lumber is selected for its uniform color. The
red to dark red color is emphasized in this grade. There
is little regard to grain match in this wood however
as time is the restricting factor. This grade is a good
choice for light color finishes or no stain at all. |
Select Appalachian Cherry |
This grade of lumber is selected for its uniform color.
Grain pattern is more open then that of northern cherry.
This grade has little or no sap wood in it. |
HICKORY
Hickory |
This lumber is very figurative with colors
ranging from white to very dark brown. When panels are
glued up the wood is marbleized to give the effect of one
piece. This grade may contain small black knots or mineral
streaks. |
Rustic Hickory |
This grade of lumber is very figurative. It may contain
knots, off colors, and worm holes. Color variation in
this grade can range from white to dark brown to black
at the knots. |
WALNUT
Natural Walnut |
This grade of lumber can very in color from
off white to a very dark brown. When boards are glued together
it can have a marble effect. |
Select Walnut |
This grade of lumber will have minimal sap or white
wood. |
PINE
Knotty Pine |
This grade of lumber allows for a mix of
colors and knot sizes. All knots are sound. Color in knots
may range from red to a dark black. |
Clear Pine |
This grade of lumber does not allow for any knots.
It is not color matched because by nature this wood will
generally produce uniform colors. |
ASH,ASPEN,CEDAR
Aspen |
This particular grade of lumber is white
to light green in color. It is a soft wood lending itself
to dents and scratches. This is an excellent choice of
wood for painting. |
White Ash |
Although this lumber ia all select it can range in
color from off white to light brown. The grain is very
pronounced adding to its character. when panels are glued
up the wood is marbleized to give the effect of one piece. |
Black Ash |
Sometimes called brown ash this material is slightly
darker than its counter part white ash. As the name implies
this lumber will be slightly darker both in the sap wood
and heart wood. When panels are glued up the wood is
marbleized to give the effect of one piece. |
Cedar |
This lumber is medium brown to redish-brown in color
with many knots. It is a soft wood similar to pine in
sanding finish and durability. |
